Kurzbeschreibung |
Membrane Reactors for Hydrogen Production Processes discusses the physical and chemical fundamentals of membrane reactor technology, as well as its technological and economic aspects when applied to the production of hydrogen by catalytic steam reforming. Membrane Reactors for Hydrogen Production Processes presents a thorough modelling of various reactors. Mass and heat transfer phenomena, reaction kinetics and a membrane permeation mechanism are described and used, together with mass, energy and momentum balances, to implement a range of mathematical models. The natural gas steam reforming reaction is taken as a reference case and several results obtained by simulations are given. A comparison between steam reforming by membrane and conventional reactors is also discussed. Three different hydrogen production plans are proposed, in which plant schemes are suggested, performance is evaluated and an economic assessment is given: membrane reformer plant, reformer and membrane modules, by which the hydrogen produced in traditional reaction units is separated by Pd-based membrane modules assembled downstream at each reaction step, and solar membrane reactor, where the heat duty required by membrane reactors is supplied by a solar source, i.e., a parabolic trough concentrating solar power plant. Plant engineers, researchers and postgraduate students will find Membrane Reactors for Hydrogen Production Processes a comprehensive guide to the state of the art of membrane reactor technology. |
